Chapter Eleven

Two days later, Talia Bennett was still in town and I was still relieved from my morning wake up call duties. I tried my best to ignore the ridiculous pangs in my chest, but they were getting heavier and harder to handle. Spending time with Emerson like this allowed me to see that he really was as down to earth as he had been when we met on New Year’s. All of the rumors about how womanizing, how diva-like he was were all false. He never stepped a foot out of line, except for the few subtle digs he’d given to Damien whenever the two men were around one another.

I ended up avoiding catering as much as I could. While Damien was a nice guy, I didn’t want to give him the wrong impression. This wasn’t another chance for him and I. I had a job to do and so did he. The only time I did visit catering was with Emerson close by my side, but that wasn’t my doing. He saw to it that he came with me.

This morning, they were filming a scene with a wolf dog named Zeke. He was adorable and it made me miss my pup. Boomer was being cared for by my neighbor while I was gone. He was not a fan of airplanes. We had tried that before on a trip to New York with Stef and it hadn’t turned out well. He was sick most of the trip and I swore I’d never put him, or myself, through that again.

Zeke was huge but a big cuddle bug. He had been rubbing against and kissing everyone this morning, including Talia who had come to set for the first time since her arrival. She hadn’t stayed long after Zeke had greeted her, though. Emerson was talking to my parents about the scene, while I was down on my knees, petting Zeke’s fur affectionately as he rubbed his head against my cheek, making me laugh. I would take this affectionate boy home in a heartbeat if I could.

“He likes you,” Emerson noted as he came up behind us. Zeke bounded over to him, throwing his whole body into Emerson just as the actor knelt down beside me. Emerson toppled backwards onto the floor, laughing while Zeke proceeded to lick every inch of skin he could find.

“I think he likes you more,” I told him with a laugh, shaking my head as I tried to get the big lug of a dog off of him. Someone whistled and Zeke immediately retreated, allowing me to take Emerson’s hand and help him off the ground. He dusted himself off and gave me a smile. The sound of Zeke’s bark caught both of our attention and we looked over to see the wolf dog down on his haunches, tail wagging vigorously.

“I wish I could take him home with me,” I sighed dreamily. He really was such a gorgeous dog, even if he was as large as a horse.
